Merchants have two paths to join the ACP ecosystem:
Platform Integration
ACP is first rolling out through major commerce platforms. Etsy merchants can already list products for sale through ChatGPT. Integration is automatic once Etsy synchronizes their feed with OpenAI. Shopify integration is expected next, extending ACP’s reach to millions of small and medium-sized retailers globally.
This approach lowers the technical barrier for merchants who already use a supported platform.
Direct Implementation (we can help)
For merchants outside these ecosystems, OpenAI provides a self-implementation path through a structured onboarding process:
Step 1: Apply
Apply through OpenAI’s merchant portal (currently this is limited to U.S.-based merchants only).
Step 2: Verification
OpenAI validates that the product feed and checkout endpoints adhere to ACP standards.
Step 3: Feed Transformation
Merchants adapt their existing data pipelines (from CMS, ERP, or PIM systems) to match the ACP feed specification.
Step 4: Checkout Integration
Developers (like us) expose secure RESTful endpoints capable of creating and completing orders programmatically.
This approach is ideal for large retailers or innovative startups that want more control over their implementation and early access to a growing commerce channel.
